Ziburu Ciboure
Up until 1555, Ciboure was but a district of Urrugne. Henry IV granted it communal autonomy in 1603.
But the history of Ciboure is first and foremost the history of the Basques and of the sea. A sea ruled by fishermen and pirates.
With the construction of a railway line in 1864, Ciboure became an artists’ haven, which it still is today. Thanks to Ravel and his Boléro with its rolling tempo, Ciboure, situated between the Rhune and the ocean, is now a renowned location.
