Hendaia Hendaye
Hendaye sits between the Atlantic Ocean, the bay of Txingudi –a Natura 2000 site- and the first mountains of the Pyrenees: an outstanding setting. The magnificent domain of Abbadia, with its cliffs and castle, the long beach of fine sand which encircles our town and the sinuous path of the Bidassoa, between France and Spain, all contribute to making Hendaye a commune which is fully aware of environmental issues.
The municipal team makes sure that the 14.000 Hendayais benefit from a dynamic lifestyle, enriched by the variety of local cultures: French, Basque and Spanish.
For those who wish to make unexpected cultural discoveries, Spain is but a stone’s throw away. Exchanges with the neighbouring towns of Irun (60,000 inhabitants) and Hondarribia (16,000 inhabitants) are being established within the framework of a trans-border cooperation called “Consorcio”.
