Urruña Urrugne
Stretching out over 5060 hectares, Urrugne, is the largest commune of the Basque coast directly located on the sea front.
This situation means it is submitted to a strong urban pressure. 7058 inhabitants were recorded in the census carried out in 1999 and 8083 in 2005.
Urrugne’s population has doubled within the space of fifty years (there were 3879 inhabitants in 1954).
The commune of Urrugne is crossed by major transport links (RN10 – Motorway A63). This strategic position has enabled it to develop several areas of activity (the industrial estate of Beroueta, where the signpost manufacturer Signature is located as well as Martin Zaharenia, Bittola , Poutilenea).
In the eighties, the area experienced a demographic explosion with around 100 people settling in the area each year
The current construction rate is around 75 to 80 houses a year. http://ns351033.ovh.net/~CCSPB/?id=337Despite this growth, the scenery is outstanding and the town centre has preserved its typical Basque atmosphere.
Urrugne also has a number of assets for the development of ecotourism (there are many long-distance footpaths).
The town boasts a rich heritage (Château of Urtubie, Soccori chapel, church Saint Vincent de Xaintes) and remarkable natural areas (Basque ledge, Rhune massif).
The commune also has a solid tourism infrastructure (hotels, guest houses, camping sites, holiday homes, holiday resorts, furnished flats) and has a seasonal population of 9000 inhabitants.
